We, do, however, ask that you stick to this version for a while, as the content in Connections is varied and many different viewpoints can always be found. You may also submit any ideas, suggestions, stories, and basically, your own 2 cents … It could be added and most probably will be.
And now September’s issue! Enjoy!
Here with Connections, we would like to give something to everyone. We want it to be a work of the readers, so remember to keep an open mind and jump in with your own submissions to Connections.
Everyone must find their own path and way and make their own decisions in what to believe and it is very important that a variety of views are considered in this world.
If everyone could all wish to help those less fortunate or wise in life, and To help mentor and support someone that needs what they have, well, then, it would be a pretty nice world, wouldn’t it.
This is especially true in the world of blind and visually impaired individuals.
I, myself had a very difficult time in finding understanding and inspiring individuals to whom I could look for support in the gradual occurrence of my blindness.
Even worse, I have met individuals that lose their sight instantaneously in their life and they find themselves lost in the system.
What You Can Expect
Each month we will share with you stories, poems, and essays on principles which keep us going and growing as both blind and visually impaired individuals, but also as able and active individuals.
Send your stories, poems, essays, and lessons about vital principles which you have found to be helpful in your success or failure in life.
This month’s principle is integrity and
William Fisher
Has this to say about that in The American Reporter Vol. 14, No. 3,481W - August 3, 2008
He is speaking of the most looked up words on the internet …
“…I'm surprised the most looked up word in 2005 is "integrity." Only one definition was offered: firm adherence to a code of
especially moral or artistic values. A synonym in bold print added Incorruptibility." And a trip to Webster's to define that reveals it to be: blamelessness.
You don't need a lot of words to define integrity. It's like charm; you either have it or you don't, and you know it when you see it. It's a good sign that
people are looking up that word. This year integrity was spoken of often when looking for Supreme Court Justices. He or she was a person of integrity.
Or someone might not have the integrity to sit on the high court.
In its simplest terms, integrity is doing the right thing. And, if we do the right thing then we're made of the right stuff. We would have character.
I don't believe there ever comes a time when we don't know the right thing versus the wrong thing in any given situation. If we do the right thing we're
persons of integrity; if we do the wrong thing, it suggests corruptibility. Everyone looking up that definition was someone wanting to know what it takes
- and that's a good sign.
Growing up, my mother never gave me grammar lessons or vocabulary quizzes but she would use words occasionally - in the correct way - and I either understood
them, or I didn't. If I told her I didn't know what she was talking about she would simply shrug. I knew immediately I'd better look it up or I'd never
be able to communicate with, say, William F Buckley, Jr.
The word my mother spoke was "indefatigable." When I found it simply meant untiring, I asked "Why didn't you say so?" Again she shrugged, smiling this time….”
Correspondent William Fisher's "American Opinion" appears Wednesdays in The American Reporter. He is a former U.S. diplomat who blogs at "The World According
to Bill Fisher."
Do You Have the Integrity?
Do you have the integrity to look at what you believe and really, honestly, know it is the right thing?
None of us can be perfect but, if we honestly look at any choice we have to make, we can easily see whether our choice truly is the right one and possibly change a wrong choice before we must pay consequences later for our shortcomings.
considering Others Views
It is always wise to consider others views and beliefs and be willing to maybe change some of our own views, if we find others’ views, at least, possible?
Trusting Yourself
The one thing I know about my source is that I can not possibly really understand it. I simply have to trust in what I have experienced and in the results it has given me.
For me to honestly know integrity, was to learn from a mentor that good was not something you did, it was instead the absence of bad.
In other words, the things I had been doing in my life, were bad things … terrible, in fact, so I could not just suddenly be a good person.
I had to slowly strip away the bad things that I did not like about myself.
It turned out to be Quite simple, when practiced, diligently and with sincere effort.
This is not the only way to practice integrity.
More likely, you may be a basically good person, with a few little cracks and flaws in the structure of your life.
This is very normal, and here those cracks must be looked at as the same as a small fissure in a bridge, that in time, over use, and without fail, will collapse because of failure to repair the original fissures.
We all may spend our whole life repairing and then finding new cracks in our character and this is perfect.
This is maintaining a basic integrity in our self.
No one, no matter who they tell you they are, is perfect.
True integrity to face one’s shortcomings requires us to be honest and admit that our ego still can show its ugly head in almost every part of our life.
If we find integrity to trust the good about ourselves, we can continue to release this ego and not rely on it to make us feel better about ourselves.
Read on in this month’s issue to find out how we can recondition our conditioning and use integrity to condition our true selves.
Ten Principles
There are 10 common and basic principles which can be studied one by one and our understanding of them will change as we progress toward an awakening in our spirit. This most often happens automatically once the principles are rightly understood for what they are.
The 10 principles which I have learned about and still learn about every day, are as follows:
1 honesty
2 hope
3 faith
4 courage
5 integrity
6 willingness
7 humility
8 brotherly love
9 self discipline
10 perseverance.
These principles may differ slightly from program to program throughout the world, be it a Native American 12-step program, Christian, Narcotics Anonymous, Overeaters anonymous, Sex addicts Anonymous, and etc. but basically, if you can find 10 principles that fit what you need, you will inevitably progress to a higher understanding about your life and find why you might be missing out on the joy and wonder of the world, blind or sighted.
Please contribute
Please contribute what you can in teaching and helping others with your example.
Instructions are found below to submit your stories about some of these principles in life.
The Rewards
Once these principles are learned and begun to be practiced, daily, the 11th and 12th, those being conscious contact with a higher power and then love and service, just magically appear. The simple acts of kindness spontaneously start to happen, on both sides of the card. Suddenly, people reach out with love and acceptance and even if they occasionally, don't, we still find love for those souls who have not yet begun to find it. Our understanding of others grows and our feelings of continuous hope and love shine forth from our hearts. Before we know it, we are people whom even ourselves love, unconditionally.
The Fifth Principle
This month I am sharing some of my own insight about the fifth principle of integrity with which we can learn a new way to think about who we are and how to forgive ourselves.
If we understand the principle of honesty and that being 100% honest *all* of the time is essential to our best interest, well, we must admit that building integrity is easy.
Just like courage was, to have integrity is a choice to make.
It's a simple choice you get to make to let those fissures in your character stay there, and possibly never get worse, or possibly get bigger and your whole life finally tumbles, or to fix them as they appear and keep a strong structural integrity.
Sounds like rolling the dice, to me.
Everyone has there own path, remember…
If we become inspired by a higher purpose, it becomes so much easier.
A simple choice.
Surrender and give it a try.
Surrendering takes willingness.
Tune in next month for some insightful ways to view what willingness really could be.
Insight On Perception
If we went by what our eyes could see Well, often the truth would be eluding us.
For those without eyes, it's how you perceive things ...
“. We can learn how we are blinded by deceptions of our mind.
The following was written by Bill Urell.
"The principles of the
12 steps
can be very difficult or very simple to understand. This is an effort to simplify the meaning of the principles of the 12 steps for those who may be having
difficulty. These are the principles that are incorporated into our daily lives as 'we walk the walk'. Employing each of these behaviors will help to rebuild
a life of increased self esteem and self confidence. So, in my never ending quest to keep it simple, here are the action principles behind steps toward {spiritual awakening}...
5. Integrity - If we have truly done a thorough job of introspection and evaluation of our assets and shortcomings do we have the integrity to own up to
it? It can be very difficult to be open and honest about our past behaviors. We accept the need for a dose of humility.
More about the rest of the principles can be found at The Principles Behind The 12 Steps Of Addiction Recovery
Structure
Integrity is most often related to structure.
The misconception about this is that because you have good structure in your life, does not always mean that you have integrity in your behavior.
Little quirks and faults of our own often affect others more than we can know.
Integrity is simply a catalyst through which your action will make things happen.
It will allow you to face underlying fears which keep you from taking action.
Anything you get, takes work and sometimes hard work.
To expect something for nothing is simply not realistic.
I mean that we must each and every one of us do our best each and every day and keep on doing it on each new day that arrives.
This is not ever as hard as it seems.

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Meeting Goals
Most days I wake up feeling graciously bountiful and then I keep picturing where I'm to be in the whole vision of my life, and the next
thing falls into place. Right in my lap.
When I lose sight of what I must do to keep those things, they begin to slip away.
It has been a very powerful and extremely wonderful experience, thus far.
Make up your mind how much of your sorrow and worry and bad luck is of your own choice.
How willing are you to do anything it takes to achieve your goals and dreams? Then decide what you can do to make it happen by changing what you have been doing that doesn't work.
If you need help, find it. It's all around. just look at the truth.

Aspartame: The sweet deception
If you're like most people, you reach for a sugar substitute because you've been told it's good for you-that it would save you from the evils of sugar, and that it would even help you trim off those extra pounds. But, like all of us, you've been lied to.
So let me set the record straight now. Aspartame is one of the most dangerous substances ever added to food. Not only has aspartame been proven to make you fatter, it's been proven to cause some pretty serious diseases, not the least of which are cancer and neurological diseases.
And the proof is on file already. Aspartame has brought more complaints to the FDA than any other additive-ever. It's responsible for a full 75 percent of the complaints the agency gets. From 10,000 consumer complaints, the FDA compiled a list of 92 symptoms, including death.
The food industry darling that's sure to increase your appetite, your waistline, and your medical bills
Sure, the marketing geniuses would have you think it's health food, but the truth paints a very different picture. Over the years, various reports have implicated aspartame in headaches, memory loss, seizures, vision loss, coma, and cancer. It also appears to worsen or mimic the symptoms of such conditions as fibromyalgia, MS, lupus, ADD, diabetes, Alzheimer's, chronic fatigue, and depression.
Aside from these risks, now there's even more proof that these toxins are MAKING US FAT! Some recent research conducted at Purdue University shows that a group of test subjects fed artificial sweeteners subsequently consumed THREE TIMES THE CALORIES of those given ordinary sugar.
Safe and effective solutions available in your FREE report
Don't get me wrong, I'm not telling you to load up on sugar. Sugar carries its own set of problems that I won't get into here. But as always, there are solutions that let you satisfy your sweet tooth without making yourself sick. And I'll tell you all about them in your FREE report, Escape the Aspartame Trap.
I've long been one of America's most outspoken mythbusters. I make it my mission to reveal the surprisingly inexpensive and easy road to real health-to the chagrin of pharmaceutical companies, food giants, and slash-and-burn surgeons everywhere.
My name's William Campbell Douglass II, M.D. I've been called "the conscience of modern medicine," and the National Health Federation voted me "Doctor of the Year." But I've also been labeled a "maverick," and several less flattering names, too, by some of the biggest names in government and the health establishment. I've taken more than a few arrows in my time in order to get you the truth-and I wear them like a badge of honor. After all, you deserve to be warned about Band-aid "solutions" that will only make you sicker and promise to send you to an early grave.
Trust me-I know how confusing it can be to sift through all the baloney you're indundated with by greedy drug companies and mainstream medicine. That's why I'm happy to offer you a free report, Escape the aspartame trap.

Recently, I published a book in memory of Mack Willard Riley a Collection of Short Stories, named "BROKEN EYES", because the last 20 years of his life he was totally blind. Yet, it never stopped him from continuing to try to reach his goals, no matter what stood in his way. He helped more people in need than anyone I know, especially people losing their "SIGHT", including myself. Each copy costs $14.95, plus $3 shipping and handling. A wonderful gift for family and friends for birthdays or Christmas!

Handiham Needs You
Ever been interested in Amateur radio? Handiham
Needs your help. We really need to recruit new people into amateur radio. With a resource like radio camp and the Handiham program, people with disabilities can be on an equal footing in licensing classes and become part of our wonderful amateur radio service.
amateur radio. In order to help you out, we have a free DVD about
our program that you can request and use to help spread the word. But wait, folks, that's not all!
Radio campers who pass their first license exam and earn their Technician at Minnesota Radio Camp will be rewarded with a new 2 m handheld radio to get them started off right in amateur radio. How about that?
Campers come from anywhere and everywhere. At the last Minnesota camp we even had a Handiham member from Germany. For people with disabilities, there is often a concern about meeting personal-care needs while away from home. Rest assured that we are equipped to handle these needs so that campers can enjoy what they really came to camp for: a wonderful ham radio experience in a safe, comfortable environment.
The most frequent concern we hear about from people who have not attended the radio camp in the past is that they don't think they can travel. However, campers who make the trip learn that we will be waiting for them at the airport or bus station nearby camp and that there was never anything to worry about in the first place. Once a person has attended camp, they often get home and immediately mark their calendar so they don't miss the next year's camp.

ConnectionsAdvertising And Literary Submissions Guidelines
Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind when sending in your ads and literary pieces.
1. When sending an ad by email, please place a ### before and after your ad in the message. This will ensure that only the ad itself is included in Connections. If you have a personal phone number or email address in your signature you do not wish to share with the readers, please protect your own privacy.
2. Before sending in your ad, please read the information that appears at the end of every Connections.)issue. You will then be more aware of the types of ads you may place and the costs for each.
3. When contacting Connections please make a note in the subject line pertaining to your inquiry or submission. This will ensure that your message is not deleted as spam.
Submissions
1. Contest submissions should be no longer than 700 words.
2. When submitting literary pieces, please keep in mind that the readership of Connections is world wide and general in nature. Please, no adult or explicit material.
3. Please send your submission in the body of an email, along with the attached document, preferably in Microsoft Word format. Double spacing is not necessary.
4. Please be aware that in print, there are two spaces between sentences. This is because print is much smaller than Braille and therefore needs the extra space for ease in reading.
Submit Your Literary Work To Connections!
Do you write poetry? How about short stories or articles on varying subjects of general interest? Do you travel to out of the way places? Do you enjoy writing jokes and humorous pieces? Many small publishers cannot pay large sums of money, and some do not pay at all, but this doesn't make them less useful to begin building up your portfolio of published works. When the time comes to submit your piece for paid publication, you'll have lots of clips from various publications to present to editors.
Connections is one of those small non paying publications at the moment. The copyright remains your own, so you can publish any of your works elsewhere. I am especially interested in blind and visually impaired writers, but not exclusively. I hope to hear from you soon
