Vocational Rehabilitation
support
When a person wants to work, even though the world has labeled them disabled, the person should have all resources available to them, to assure success.
The most gainfully employed and happy blind and visually impaired individuals are successful for a couple of reasons.
The first reason is because the individual has received adequate training and/or funding to help them prosper in their new found life.
The second ingredient to the "winning" scenario, is having a true passion for what a person is working at.
Even sighted, fully able people have a hard time excelling if they don't love what they do.
Many VIPs (Visually Impaired Persons) lack the self confidence needed to begin a brand new career on top of being blind doing it.
It is not worth the effort, they may think.
For most blind and visually impaired individuals, the state's Division of Blind Services or other programs offer a very limited amount of vocational choices.
See our laws and advocacy page to learn about your rights dealing with employment and the disabled.
